The ancient Chinese book culture has a long history with traditional binding art, printing technology, and artistic aesthetics has attracted the world’s attention, reflecting the essence of Chinese book culture to the world in a thousand forms and still glowing with endless charm. Tang scriptures, Song engraved books, Ming illustrated books, set out printing, scroll binding, dragon scale binding, scripture folding binding, butterfly binding, package back binding, line binding, and more are the source to create designs.
While inheriting the excellent spirit of ancient Chinese book art, contemporary Chinese book designers have also made bold innovations and changes to build the context of modern Chinese book forms and design books that reflect the spirit of Eastern culture. This lecture will present the inheritance and expression of Chinese book art and even the essence of Chinese culture through representative cases of contemporary Chinese book design.

About Presenter
Han Zhanning is the founder and creative group director of Shenzhen Asia Copper Design Consulting Co., Ltd, the deputy secretary-general of the Book Design Art Committee of China Publishing Association, the consultant of Shenzhen Graphic Design Association, the guest researcher of the Palace Museum, and the part-time professor and postgraduate tutor of many design colleges and universities, such as Shanxi Normal University, Jilin Animation Institute, Shenzhen University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang University of Technology and Industry, Shanghai Normal University, etc.
He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Shanxi Normal University (BFA) and the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University (MFA). He served as a professor and graduate tutor of the Yangtze River Art and Design College of Shantou University, the Secretary-General of the Shenzhen Graphic Design Association, the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the “Graphic Design in China Exhibition,” and the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Eighth National Book Design Exhibition. He was rated as “the 100 of Chinese Famous Designer”, “the 13 Famous Contemporary Book Designers in China”, “Shenzhen Creative Figure of the Year,” “Outstanding Original Designer in Greater Bay Area,” etc. At the same time, he was awarded “Advanced Worker” and many other honors.
Currently, he has won almost 200 design awards domestic and abroad, including the German Red Dot “Best of the Best” Award, the Benny Gold Award of American Print Award, the National Book Design Exhibition Gold Award and Silver Award, the Chinese Most Beautiful Book Award, the GDC Graphic in China Silver Award and Merit Award, American Mohawk Show Grand Prize, etc. He was invited to participate in United Kingdom, Germany, United States, Japan, and other top international competitions and invitational exhibitions. Museums in many countries have collected his works. In recent years, he has also served as a judge of significant domestic and foreign competitions, such as the “Korea International Poster Exhibition,” “Chinese Elements International Advertising Awards,” “AAC Art China,” and “The 4th China Design Exhibition and Public Art Special Exhibition”. He is also the curator of “National Book Design Art Exhibition,” “Shenzhen Pingshan International Sculpture Exhibition,” “Hubei Life International Illustration Exhibition,” etc.
