Denise Burt is a graphic artist and designer, born in Auckland (NZ) and based in Copenhagen (DK). Educated at the Elam School for Fine Arts (NZ), she designs album art for contemporary classical music and has designed the artwork for over 300 releases since 2003.
She was the house designer for the Danish National Recording Label, Dacapo Records from 2003-19 and has worked closely with Cantaloupe Records (NY, USA), part of the legendary ‘Bang on a Can’ music collective since 2011. She has especially worked with the three founding composers: David Lang, Michael Gordon and Julia Wolfe.
Denise is the author of the book ‘Seeing New Music’ (2015) where she tells 24 short stories about the creation of her album artwork. The Guardian’s Tom Service wrote, “Burt’s thoughtfulness, imagination and visual variety is an insight into what can happen when label, composer and artist are working in creative synergy.”
